Job Description- This position (Environmental Specialist-I) is for those candidates with a background in Science/ Engineering/ or Ecology or a related field, local candidates preferred.
Environmental Consultant/Specialist: This job consists of both field and office work, with anywhere from 20%-60% of your job duties being located in the outdoors. Candidates must have a very strong tolerance for harsh field conditions including being in mosquito/bug/snake infested habitat, extreme heat/ and rain/lightning regularly.
You will be conducting environmental/biological inventories within vacant / native lands located in the South Florida area (Port Charlotte East to Hardee and South to Collier County- occasionally in Miami-Dade County area). Job duties include, but are not limited to: creating FLUCCS maps/ listed species surveys/jurisdictional wetland delineations, obtain State and Federal environmental permit approvals, local municipal/county development review applications, creating restoration plans, and monitoring native habitat.
Company: TEC is a small (4-6 employees) environmental consulting firm specializing in environmental resource permitting and environmental survey work for residential and small -scale commercial development. TEC is a female-owned company, and has operated in the southwest Florida area for over 30 years with offices in Collier and Lee County.

Qualifications: Local candidates preferred. The qualified candidate shall posses, or be working towards completion of at minimum a B.S. or B.A. degree in Environmental/Biological Sciences or Natural Resources; OR have strong field experience and knowledge of South Florida ecology.
Preferred candidates will have training/experience in one or more of the following areas: Preserve/Restoration Areas Maintenance & Monitoring; Strong knowledge of Florida Native Plants; Moderate knowledge of Florida Native Animals; State (FDEP) /Federal (USACE) Wetland Determinations and Delineation Procedures; Environmental Resource Permitting; Listed Species Survey Protocol; Water quality/quantity monitoring, GIS mapping, Phase I,II, III surveys, Soil analysis, ESA/COE/FDEP regulatory protocols, or any other direct or indirectly related field.

Work environment: Candidates must be able to work and navigate around by foot within the field for multiple hours, thru very thick brush, sometimes navigating using a compass, GPS. Able to carry field equipment during duration of day. Conditions include hot, humid, wet weather, and within snake/alligator/bear habitat. Ability to travel to multiple counties within Southwest Florida as needed, work from home independently and with a small group. Great communication skills and very strong attention to detail required.
