Vintage Original Sanibel Light House Print By W Harold Hancock. It is new old stock, meaning that it is vintage but has never been displayed or framed.William Harold Hancock was born on October 24, 1920 in a small coal mining town just north of Harrisburg, Illinois. He showed artistic ability at an early age. In the fourth grade his entry to the National Book Week poster contest won first place, which greatly encouraged him and his teachers. To earn money during high school, Hancock would arise early and set off on his bicycle to paint the menu items of the day on local restaurant windows. In 1939, at the age of eighteen, he established his first art studio. During this time he painted primarily portraits, ships, and murals. Wanting to serve his country, he joined the Army, where he worked on various art projects related to the war effort. In 1945, after his service, he moved to Greensburg, Indiana, where he lived for many years. Hancock became successful as an artist and had residence-studios in Brown County, Indiana; Lake Tahoe, Nevada; Ft. Myers Beach, Florida; and Newcastle, England. He painted on location all over the United States, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and the British Isles, where he was often remembered for his witty banter and ever-present cigar. Hancock's friend Red Skelton, the comedian and clown, introduced him to Emmett Kelly Jr., whom he later sketched. He loved to paint clowns: "Clowns seem to have all the fun, wrapped up in their antics, making kids out of us all!" Hancock studied at the John Herron Art Institute, was a lifetime member of the Brown County Art Gallery, and exhibited at the Hoosier Salon and Indiana Heritage Arts. His Four Seasons mural at the Abe Martin Lodge in the Brown County State Park is viewed by thousands of people every year. Sold as is, Call show contact info if in SWFL, FREE SHIPPING OUTSIDE SWFL
