THE GOOD:
COMES WITH ORIGINAL WORKING LOCK, KEY, HINGES, AND HIDDEN DRAWER. APPEARS TO BE THE ORIGINAL RED MILK(?) PAINT FINISH. DOVETAILED ON ALL 4 CORNERS AS WELL AS THE FRONT CORNERS OF THE FEET. THIS WAS PULLED OUT OF MY GRANDMOTHER'S CONNECTICUT BASEMENT IN THE 1980's AND STORED IN AN OLD OUT BUILDING IN CENTRAL FLORIDA UNTIL RECENTLY.

THE BAD:
DURING THE TRIP TO OUR HOME, THE TWO BACK FEET FELL OFF DUE TO DAMAGE FROM BEING IN A BASEMENT FOR MANY YEARS. WHEN WE FLIPPED IT OVER TO TAKE A LOOK, THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE OLD ROT TO THE BOTTOM BOARD (SEE PHOTO). THE BAD WOOD WAS REMOVED AND THE AREA WAS GIVEN AN OIL BASED POLYURETHANE TO TOUGHED THE GOOD WOOD. THEN, THE BACK FEET WERE REPAIRED AND ALL 4 FEET WERE BEEFED UP. STAINED, POLY'ED, AND GLIDES PUT ON (SEE PHOTO). THE CHEST WAS FLIPPED BACK OVER ON IT'S NOW STURDY FEET. IT WAS THEN THAT WE FOUND EVIDENCE OF OLD POWDER POST DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR BOTTOM BOARD AND A TRIM PIECE ON THE INSIDE OF THE LID (SEE PHOTOS).

AND IT'S NOT THE UGLY: BUT WE JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO DEAL WITH THE REST OF THE PROJECT WITH THE GOAL OF MAKING IT NICELY USABLE.

SO, IT IS FOR SALE. PRICE REFLECTS THE DAMAGE - WITHOUT THIS DAMAGE, IT WOULD SELL FOR THOUSANDS ON "1stdibs" OR BE IN A MUSEUM.
