UPDATE JAN. 27, 2017 - TRUMP & GOP RESCIND VA HIRING FREEZE AFTER HUGE PRESSURE FROM VETERAN GROUPS & THEIR SUPPORTERS & DEMOCRAT CONGRESS MEMBERS. Below in on 6th paragraph you can see where Sean Spicer, Trumps spokesman how the WH didn't want to go along with exempting the VA from the hiring freeze. Trump, The Salesman in Chief quote: "Oh I will treat the veterans so well you won't believe it." What a crock of crap.

Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., the top Democrat on the Veterans' Affairs Committee, said the agency actually has 45,000 vacancies. It was unclear how many of the openings could be affected by Trump's hiring freeze.

Democrats and veteran groups warned leaving positions open could harm veterans seeking health care, benefits and jobs.

"While there can be no debate that the federal government, including VA, should be more efficient in its delivery of services to all Americans, a hiring freeze at VA will delay veterans' access to health care and resolution of their disability claims, which for many of our nation's heroes provides a sole source of income to them and their families," a group of 54 Democrats wrote Wednesday to Trump.

The White House confirmed Tuesday that the hiring freeze covers the VA but has not provided more details.

"Hiring more people isn't the answer," Press Secretary Sean Spicer said.

Trump executive order hiring freeze of federal workers so now the VA cannot fill any open positions for social workers, nurses & doctors for vets. Thank you Trump & GOP. The MILITARY is the only exclusion & the VA is not part of the military complex & is a separate government agency which the hiring freeze affects.

Sorry, veterans! Scoring political points is worth more to Donald Trump than your health is! Just get sick and die quickly, that's the GOP plan for you. If you thought the VA wait lines were bad before, just wait and see. (no pun intended)

And don't forget, nearly 50% of federal new hires in the last few years went to veterans and a huge chunk of those newly hired veterans are disabled veterans. So congratulations Donald, you just signed away the most popular and most utilized veterans jobs program in the nation! Good thing you got your son-in-law & friends on the payroll before that that hiring freeze.

Bush did similar thing while sending our troops off to a fake war, Bush had the audacity to cut the VA budget more than once in his 8 years to help cover his tax cuts to the rich. Damn them republicans are some of the most 2 faced people I know. GOP only trot out their patriotism for political gain & in front of the cameras. When they are behind closed doors they do their dirty deeds and cut VA budgets to cover their tax cuts. Obama increased the VA budget more than ANY RECENT U.S. President. Just before the VA crisis a couple years back GOP Congress was pushing VA budget cuts then too until all the news on the VA crisis & they changed their minds because the cameras were on them.

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration's budget assumes cuts to funding for veterans' health care two years from now -- even as badly wounded troops returning from Iraq could overwhelm the system.

Bush is using the cuts, critics say, to help fulfill his pledge to balance the budget by 2012. But even administration allies say the numbers are not real and are being used to make the overall budget picture look better.

After an increase sought for next year, the Bush budget would turn current trends on their head. Even though the cost of providing medical care to veterans has been growing rapidly -- by more than 10 percent in many years -- White House budget documents assume consecutive cutbacks in 2009 and 2010 and a freeze thereafter.
