Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly dependable Barge Captain Operator to oversee the safe and efficient operation of barge vessels. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years of hands-on experience navigating inland and/or coastal waterways, possess a valid captain’s license, and demonstrate the ability to perform all duties independently without supervision or additional training.
Key Responsibilities:
• Command and operate barge vessels in compliance with all maritime laws, regulations, and safety standards
• Navigate waterways with confidence, accounting for tides, currents, weather conditions, and traffic
• Ensure the safe transport of cargo, crew, and equipment
• Conduct pre- and post-voyage inspections to verify vessel readiness and identify maintenance needs
• Maintain accurate logs, reports, and required documentation
• Coordinate docking, mooring, and loading/unloading operations
• Monitor vessel systems and address operational issues as they arise
• Enforce safety protocols and respond effectively to emergencies
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Barge Captain or similar maritime role
• Valid Captain’s License (required)
• Strong knowledge of local and regional waterways, navigation routes, and maritime conditions
• Demonstrated ability to operate independently with minimal or no supervision
• Solid understanding of vessel operations, maintenance, and safety procedures
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills under pressure
• Strong communication and organizational skills
